Mouth Guards
Custom protection built from an impression of your child's own teeth — so it stays put through every sprint, jump, and rebound, and a good season never costs a tooth.
Armor, made to measure.
No matter how healthy your child's teeth are, one collision on the court or field can undo years of good care. A mouth guard is the soft shield that prevents most sports-related dental injuries — and the difference is entirely in the fit.
Store shelves offer two versions: a one-size guard that slips out exactly when it shouldn't, and a boil-and-bite kit that fits approximately. Ours is the third kind — crafted in a lab from an impression of your child's exact teeth, from a completely harmless material, so it cushions better, protects better, and stays put.
Small piece of plastic. Serious math.
Mouth and face injuries are more common in youth sports than most parents realize — and most of them are preventable.
Even a weekend game counts
Dr. Tsai encourages a guard for every active kid — organized league or weekly game at the park. Many sports, basketball among them, don't require one, which is exactly why their players see so many facial injuries. Without a guard, a tooth can break, crack, chip, or be knocked out entirely — and a stray elbow can force a tooth into the gums or through the cheek. Guarding teeth now costs far less than repairing them later.
A guard only works if it's worn.
Store-bought guards aren't professionally made — they fit poorly, come loose, and get left in the bag. A custom guard solves all three.
Stays Put
Built to your child's exact teeth, it holds its place no matter how fast they run, how high they jump, or how hard they hit the ball.
Comfortable Enough to Wear
A proper fit means no bulk and no slipping — so the guard actually ends up on the teeth, not in a pocket.
Protects Better
Snug, full coverage cushions impact in a way a loose, generic guard simply can't match.
Lasts Longer
Professionally made and more durable — built for full seasons, not a few games. And it can be clear, or any color your child wants.
From impression to game-ready.
The whole process is comfortable and usually takes no more than two short appointments.
-
Impressions and images
We take a mold and images of your child's teeth and send them to the lab.
-
Choose the look
Clear to blend in, or a favorite color to stand out — their guard, their call.
-
Crafted to fit
The lab builds the guard to the exact specifications of your child's teeth — snug, secure, no slip.
-
The fitting
Your child tries it on, we fine-tune anything that needs it, and they leave ready for the season.
Caring for the guard
Rinse it immediately after wearing, and store it in its case. At home, brush it with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water — skip the toothpaste, which is too abrasive. If you'd like a cleaning-solution recommendation, just ask us.
Mouth guard questions, answered.
Store-bought guards aren't professionally made, so they fit poorly and slip around — and kids often leave them out, which protects nothing. A custom guard is built to your child's exact teeth: comfier, more secure, and far more likely to actually be worn when it matters.
Usually in no more than two appointments. First we take a mold and images of your child's teeth and send them to the lab; then your child returns for a fitting, where we make any small adjustments. The whole process is harmless and comfortable.
That's the point of a custom fit. Because it's made to the exact specifications of your child's teeth, it stays in place through running, jumping, and contact — unlike a loose store-bought guard that pops out at the worst possible moment.
Rinse it right after wearing, then brush it with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water — no toothpaste, which is abrasive. Keep it in its case between uses, and ask us anytime for a cleaning-solution recommendation.
If they're active, yes. Many sports — basketball included — don't require guards, which is exactly why those players see high rates of facial injury. The ADA reports injury risk is 1.6 to 1.9 times higher without one. League play or pickup games at the park, the protection is worth it either way.
