Two board-certified pediatric dentists, years of specialty training beyond dental school, and one shared conviction: prevention before repair, comfort before everything.
Dr. Linh Tsai
Dr. Tsai grew up in Fairfield, California, took her B.A. in Biology at UC Irvine, and earned her D.D.S. at USC. It was the Children's Mobile Clinic that introduced her to preventive children's dentistry — and she never looked back.
She completed a two-year pediatric residency at USC, finishing her specialty training in 2005, and earned board certification in 2007. The year after, she opened CarlsbaDDS Pediatric Smiles — a practice built on the idea that a child's mind and heart deserve as much care as their teeth.
That standard shows in her tools. She brought the no-shot, no-drill Solea laser to the practice in 2015 — with advanced hard- and soft-tissue laser training from Convergent Dental, the company behind it — then silver diamine fluoride in 2016, Curodont in 2023, and Dental Synapse most recently. Dentists across Vista, Carlsbad, Oceanside, and San Marcos refer their smallest patients to her.

Her partner in life and in practice is James, our Lead Dental Hygienist — and together they're raising four amazing kids. Sydney (19) studies Public Health and Disease Prevention at the University of Southern California and has her sights set on orthodontics; Connor (19) studies business at San Diego State University; Baylin (17), at Torrey Pines High School, wants to become a pediatric dentist; and Aila (10), at Sycamore Ridge Elementary School, would happily be at Disneyland every day!
Dr. Judy Brown
Dr. Judy is a New Yorker by birth and a San Diegan by choice. She earned her D.M.D. at the University of Pennsylvania, then headed west for a general residency at the VA Hospital in La Jolla.
Children kept pulling her back. She returned to New York for a pediatric residency at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, then came home to North County for good. She has cared for kids here since 2009, earned board certification in 2011, and joined Dr. Tsai in 2016.
She's also a mom of four, which means very little surprises her: not a wiggly patient, not a mid-visit question, not a strong opinion about toothpaste flavors. Families feel that steadiness the moment she walks in.
Why board certification matters
A pediatric dentist completes two to three additional years of residency after dental school, devoted entirely to children — their growing teeth and jaws, their behavior, their fears. Board certification is a further, voluntary step that holds a dentist to the highest standards in the specialty. Both of our doctors carry it.
